Smart Cymru ERDF supports Pinpoint Scientific Limited to develop their Microbial Air Monitor, the ISO90N to a prototype
The pharmaceutical industry is moving ever more towards the use of isolation working chambers with the intention of performing the drug manufacturing process in sealed environments, free from human intervention and contamination. The current ISO90 uses a small monitoring head inside the test area with a remotely located pump and controller unit but still requires significant engineering input to install in an existing chamber.
The ISO90N with an integrated pump will require no plumbing or welding to install, reducing the effort and cost to implement. Another advantage to the pump being in the head itself, the sampled air can be exhausted in a novel way, which is particularly advantageous in bio-safety cabinets where dangerous pathogens may be present. This project will also enables Pinpoint Scientific to link the monitoring head directly to a network based computer system without any additional interface hardware in order to monitor and gather data.
Products currently on the market can only sample for 10 minutes. Pinpoint Scientific will be the first manufacturer to develop a product with a 4-hour capability. There is potential to create new jobs from increased sales with additional benefits to Wales with the creation of a centre of excellence in analytical instrumentation. There will be an environmental benefit due to the unit requiring less power to operate.
Pinpoint Scientific is a Life Sciences micro-enterprise established in 2009 and based in Bridgend, South Wales. They specialise in the design and manufacturer of scientific products mainly used for bio-detection applications, aimed primarily at the pharmaceutical market.
