Smart Cymru ERDF support helps Pinpoint develop the ISO-90-N

The support received from the Smart Cymru ERDF grant helps Pinpoint Scientific develop prototypes of the microbial air monitor, the ISO-90-N

Pinpoint received support from the Smart Cyrmu ERDF grant to develop the ISO-90-N to prototype stage. The project has been successfully completed; we now have prototypes of the ISO-90-N (PoE) ready for trials with customers.

The new Annex 1 regulation coming into force will require companies to swap from microbial sampling to microbial monitoring. This could be a hugely costly exercise to upgrade an existing manufacturing plant. The ISO-90-N offers a very novel and cost effective solution to achieve the upgrade without major down time on the production line to carry out the upgrade.

Being a small integrated design, installation and maintenance can be performed with a much lower engineering input. This will reduce cost on many fronts for the manufacturer. E.g. no need for heavy electrical switch gear and large pumps; no need for complex steel plumbing and welding and lower power consumption during use. Needless to say all of these translate into the environmental benefits of this design.

The results from the testing of the ISO-90 monitoring head carried out by PHE are excellent. The target to meet the standard is to achieve at least 50% efficiency in collecting particles down to 1 µ (microns). We actually achieved over 90% efficiency at even smaller particles of 0.7 µ.  The biological efficiency results showed a 25% improvement compared to our existing IA-140 monitor.
